The default application includes a few general sections and common questions right out of the box. To truly customize it, you'll likely want to add some new questions to meet the specific needs of your application process.
Navigate to your Application tab to access your general application:
Scroll down past the existing questions (in any section) to find the 'Create Question' options:
Creating new questions is meant to achieve one primary goal: obtain the information you need from ALL applicants that is not already captured by a qualification question.
Here's an explanation of the different question types (if you've created additional requirement questions on a scholarship, these will look awfully familiar to you):
-
Single Answer - a multiple choice question where the applicant selects one response
-
Multiple Answers - a multiple choice question where the applicant can select more than one response
-
Open-ended Answer - a question where the applicant enters a short response
-
Date Answer - a question to which applicants provide a specific date answer
-
File Upload - a question to which applicants upload a document that you specify
-
Essay Answer - a question that requires an essay response from the applicant
-
Number Answer - a questions where applicants must enter a numeric response
-
External Request Template - allows applicants to request supplemental information from external parties (such as recommendation letters)
-
Instructional Text - used to provide clarification to the applicant about a question you've added or to provide additional information anywhere on the application (including documents or active hyperlinks)
- Budget Calculator* - used to collect financial data on the application
*You will only see this option if you have configured the budget calculator under Settings.
Some question examples:
- Please upload a resume/transcript (file upload)
- In 500 words or less, explain what a scholarship means to you (essay answer)
- Graduation Date (date answer)
- How did you hear about our foundation? (single answer; multiple choice)
To create a question, first you'll need to select the appropriate type. Let's proceed to create a file upload question.
In a new box, set the question text, and click 'Save':
The question is added as the last one in the selected section on your application. You may immediately reorder it, move it to another section, or expand its details to edit it:
You may make questions conditional based on the answer to other questions (to learn how to do so, please view this article).
